Installing WordPress with Softaculous (one-click)

Every ipxcore cPanel hosting plan includes Softaculous, a one-click installer that handles WordPress installation in under a minute. This article walks through the install and the most important settings to configure right after.

Install WordPress

  1. Log in to cPanel and find Softaculous Apps Installer (it's a colorful icon, usually near the bottom of the page).
  2. Click on the WordPress logo. You'll see a description page — click Install Now at the top.
  3. Configure these fields:
    • Choose Protocol: https:// (uses your free AutoSSL certificate)
    • Choose Domain: the domain to install on
    • In Directory: leave blank to install at the root, or enter blog to install at yourdomain.com/blog
    • Site Name and Description: your site's title and tagline (you can change these later)
    • Admin Account: set a username that is NOT "admin" or "administrator", and a strong password
    • Admin Email: a real email you check, for password resets and security alerts
  4. Under Advanced Options, enable Auto Upgrade so WordPress core, plugins, and themes update automatically. This is the single most important security setting.
  5. Click Install.

In about 30 seconds, you'll get a confirmation with the admin login URL (typically https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin).

Right after install: the 5-minute hardening checklist

  1. Delete default content: Posts → All Posts → delete "Hello World!". Pages → delete "Sample Page". Comments → delete the spam-looking default comment.
  2. Set permalinks: Settings → Permalinks → choose Post name. This produces SEO-friendly URLs like /your-post-title/ instead of /?p=123.
  3. Pick a theme: Appearance → Themes → Add New. Stick to themes from the official WordPress.org repository or paid themes from established marketplaces (Astra, GeneratePress, Kadence are good free starting points).
  4. Install a security plugin: we recommend Wordfence (free) or Solid Security. They block common attacks before they reach your site.
  5. Enable a backup plugin: UpdraftPlus (free) backs up to remote storage and is the most-installed WordPress backup plugin. We also do nightly account backups, but plugin-level backups give you finer-grained restore.

Performance tip: enable a caching plugin

WordPress without caching is slow. Install LiteSpeed Cache (free, works with our LiteSpeed-enabled servers), W3 Total Cache, or WP Super Cache. After activation, accept the default settings — they're already tuned for shared hosting.

A well-cached WordPress site on our entry tier handles 50+ concurrent visitors without breaking a sweat. Without caching, the same site can stagger at 5.

If something goes wrong during install

The most common Softaculous error is "Could not connect to MySQL." This usually means cPanel's MySQL service is briefly overloaded. Wait 60 seconds and click Install again. If it fails twice in a row, open a ticket and we'll investigate.

Other one-click apps in Softaculous

Softaculous also installs Joomla, Drupal, Magento, OpenCart, MediaWiki, phpBB, Moodle, Ghost, and 400+ other applications. The same install flow applies — pick the app, fill in the basics, click Install.
